Hackathon gathers dozens to build apps for Harlem
Dozens of people — old and young, coders and artists, Harlemites and other New Yorkers — gathered for 12 hours to come up with their best ideas for a smartphone application that benefits Harlem.
The Harlem Business Alliance hosted #HackHarlem on March 21. The objective was not only to provide an idea incubator where apps could be created, but also to give a space for both professional developers and engineers as well as people with no app-building experience to learn from each other and work together.
“There’s talk about a digital divide,” said Mark Nyon, an organizer. “One way to deal with it is: highlight and challenge and be part of a solution.”
Nyon hopes to make the hackathon a monthly event. More information is available at hackharlem.org.
