Plumber Cristian Torres moved to Queens from Argentina after his home country’s economic collapse in the early 2000s, leaving behind a young daughter and his whole family. He worked as a day laborer for many years before finding his way into more stable jobs. But a true transformation in Torres’ life came when he began to create art. Torres still works plumbing jobs but finds that making art with plumbing fittings, pipes and wires helps him fend off the darkness that comes from a life of hardship.
